96 yamaha big bear no spark

is the coil supposed to have power going to it .because mine dont have any power when the key is on...the stator cheched good and i am trying to fix it without paying 500.00 for a cdi box .any help would be appreciated thanks.

i doubt the coil is bad. the CDI box controls all the voltage related to starting.
