Have a situation for no apparent reason one of the front wheels locks in drive position when in two wheel drive mode on my Polaris 500 Sportsman 2001. Only way I can release it is to pull hard on the hand brake while accelerating. Have been told to try a thicker oil in the hub but I am reluctant to try without some guidance.

Can anyone help.

 

More than likely armature plate magnetized causing hub to lock in.(replace both sides as the other can go at any time. DONT use thicker oil!! Try draining and refilling first with Demand drive hub fluid(or in a pinch ATF) and see if helps.

 

Many thanks for the information. Will let you know how I get on. Will have to do a bit of reading up on the clutch and how to access it etc, have just purchased a workshop manual. Have had the Dealer look at the problem and after $200+ still not fixed.
