Default How do I check the oil?

Here is an easy one. I just purchased a 2000 Polaris Xplorer 400 4x4. This is my first ATV and I just started working on it. The electric indicator lights are out so the low oil light does not work. How do I manually check the oil? Also I know the chain is loose, how do I tighten it? Thanks all.....

the low oil light is for the two stroke oil in the front of the machine. in the hood piece is a cap. unscrew the cap and put your finger in there. if it comes out clean add more oil.

I believe thats a 2 stroke, right? There is an oil tank in the front if the machine you need to look in it to check the 2 cycle oil. Take the 2 bolts loose on the back of swing-arm and turn the eccentric forward with a large pair of channel-lock, that will do the chain.

its a 2 stroke so its the oil inthe fron of the bike you need to add. it wouldnt hurt to check and maybe replace the counterbalancer oil as well.
