Hello All,

I am a new owner of a 1998 Polaris Sportsman 500 and have a few questions. I am searching the old posts too, but thought I would also try here for some help.

1. Tires are pretty old and low on tread. Suggestions? I use it to plow and hunt with so anything from snow to dirt to mud will be seen.
2. I'm looking at lifting it about 2". Suggestions on kits to do so as well as what size tire to run with said lift.
3. Exhaust is pretty rusted. What should I replace it with?

Thanks for all your help!

Also, has anyone on here put a twist throttle kit on their polaris 500? If so, what kit did you use?

Thanks again!

A 2" lift in the front is fine but if I were you I would not put the lift in the rear. I'm sure you have u-joint axles in the rear and they do not like a lift. I am in the process of converting my 98 to cv axles right now bucause of this. I have 27" tires and run in the mud with it. Although, both my rear axles broke in snow.

How much was it to convert to CV? Anyone else lift theirs and have issues?

Suggestions/answers to my other questions?

[img]i/expressions/brokenheart.gif[/img] Twist throttle I would stay away from! Have had several machines wrecked and one man hurt because of these throttles!

I got the parts I needed from Ebay. To do this, you will need both rear cv axles, both rear outter bearing support hubs, and both rear upper a-arms all from a 99-02 sportsman 335-500. You will also need to slot the holes in the forward-most upper a-arm mount. I got all my parts from one guy for $400. If you are interested, your rear u-joint axles are still worth about $60-$80 each on ebay. Mine are too destroyed to sell.
