What is the most popular tire size for Raptors, 20 or 22 inch?
#1
I'm getting ready to buy some new wheels and tires and was wondering how many people have went up to a 22" tire? I ride mostly all trails and x-country type terrain, so the extra clearance wouldn't hurt anything, but I'm wondering how much more tippy it would become do to sitting 1" higher.
Are most aftermartket tires a little taller than the factory ones even if they are rated at the same size?
Is there a concensus on which is better for the Raptor when comparing Holeshots and Razors?
Also, I'll probably go with 10" wheels in front and rear if this affects anything.

Sounds to me like u need the 22'' tires. i dont think u want 10'' rims for the rear if u are going to cross country prolly 8'', or 9'', u could always get offset rims to make it wider. Holeshots are a great trail tire, i have the 6 ply's and they are very rugged.

If someone offers you a set of tires like Fred Flintstone had or a set of Holeshots, take Freds tires. Seriously though, holeshots are tough, i cant deny that, but the design is outdated by about 15 years. If you are thinking about Holeshots may i suggest some RA Shredders, they hook better than a Holeshot, ride smother, and last longer. I dont know about the Maxis Razrs, but I keep hearing really good things about them.If you go with a 22in tire you will need a 12 tooth front(which you probably have anyhow) as for myself i would still go with a 20 in tire. Ground clearance wont be that different and you wont have all that unsprung weight slowing you down. And it wont look like some rednecks truck with big uns on the back

Stay away from Shredders, they are cheap and there is a reason.
As far as the comments about Holeshots being outdated, what are the RAZRs and Shredders design based on?
Anyway's the RAZRs slide better with a little less sidebite than the Holeshots, the Shredders are just not very good and have thin sidewalls which will cause a lot of roll in the corners. This can especially be seen when the tires are compared when not mounted, by grabbing and flexing the sidewalls it is apparent that they are not constructed very well (last time I checked anyway).
Also keep in mind that 20" RAZRs and 20" Holeshots are taller than your 20" stock tires. On my 400EX I gained about an inch of swingarm to ground clearance.
Personally I'd go with the 20" RAZRs on 9" wheels on the rear.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Gabe,
Thanks for letting me know the differences in between the Razors and Holeshots. I'm going to email you a few more questions and hope you have time to answer them.
Thanks again everyone!
