need help with rear brake drum on a 97 honda recon

Default need help with rear brake drum on a 97 honda recon

the brake cam, that the brake arm is connected to does not want to rotate smoothly, its pretty much froze up. what do i have to do to remove it. thanks

Default need help with rear brake drum on a 97 honda recon

Remove all the the plate from the four-wheeler. Then remove all the hardware from the brake cam. BE VERY CAREFUL but you have to beat it out if it moves some it might not be bad. Mine was completely stuck and I got it out. Use a wire brush either on a drill or bench grinder clean the cam really well. Use sandpaper roll it up and clean the hole the cam slides through. Grease the eh out of it (lots of grease will keep it working smoothly for a long time). Re-assemble and ride!

thanks for the help, i pretty much wasted my time though. i figured it out about 15 min after i posted this thread, but now my breaks are really smooth. i guess i need to drain them after going through tire deep mudholes
