Here is a quick and stupid question. I know that if I put a locker in, it will make it harder to turn while on a hard packed surface. Now, the locker will not affect turning if I was to just use 2wd most of the time unless 4wd is really needed correct?

Thanks

NOT correct. Even though the Kodiak is 2wd/4wd switchable, it WILL make it harder to steer when in 2wd mode. That is what turned me off on putting a locker onto my Kodiak.

Putting a locker in will effect steering in 2WD becuase your front wheels are locked together, which doesn't allow them to rotate at different speeds. When corning the outside wheel will need to rotate faster becuase it has to cover more ground then the inside wheel. Locking up the front end will not allow for this, so steering will be more difficult, even in 2WD. In my opinion the trade off in steering ease is worth the added traction.

My mistake then because I was thinking that the locker was only engaged while in 4wd. I agree I think the trade off is good, I just want to see what my riding stlye is this spring befor I decide on the type of mods I am going to put on the beast. Thanks for your help guys...

I would not do it because as we all know you drive in 2wd mode 99% of the time so keep the steering as light as possible. If thing are really tuff where you ride just get a winch instead.

I KNOW YOU CAN SHIM THE LIMITED THATS ON YOUR ATV NOW,IT WILL GIVE A LITTLE MORE LOCKUP DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF SHIM,ITS CHEAP BUT NOT A LOCKER AND IT TIME CONSUMING.
