Ok, people. I am posting this topic to help Raptor owners. So I hope that all the people out there reading this, that have nothing better to do than to BASH others, can appreciate when others are trying to help.
I have discussed doing this with a couple of forum users and has been welcomed as a good idea.
You say you have tranny problems? You say your starter is going out?etc, etc, etc.Well, let me tell you that I DO NOT believe that the tranny problem is isolated. After speaking with 3 dealers in my area, I have found that atleast 1/2 of the Raptor's are having tranny problems. The fix? At this point, shops are just replacing gears with the same gears that are causing the initial problem. Just to vent, I think this is BULL****! Why? Because the fact that the problem occurs 4-6 months after we bought the quad. This means that we're running out of warranty. Unless you feel that spending another several hundred dollars for an extended warranty, on top of the thousands spent to buy a Raptor is ok. Then if that is ok, Yamaha will have no reason to "PROVIDE A SOLUTION" rather than a "TEMPORARY FIX" at the owners expense. How does that make you feel?

So this is my idea.
I would like to invite everyone with Yamaha Raptor 660R's, THAT ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TRANNY'S, CLUTCH'S AND STARTERS to call customer service. Let them hear from the owners of the quad, rather than letting them figuire it out through their analysis group that speaks with the parts dept. If everyone can call and voice their problem and demand to get a timely answer on what Yamaha is going to do, to FIX the problem. I feel then we can put our point across that they need to get off their as* and do something about the problem (at their expense, not ours). The # to call is 1-800-962-7926 this is the customer service #. Be prepared, you will need your Raptor ID # and might even need the date of purchase and from what dealer you bought it from. Ask for help, let them know that you are aware of this not being an isolated problem,(you obviously know others are having the same problems). Ask what they can do for you, how and when they plan to offer a SOUTION not a TEMPORARY FIX and that your warranty is going to run out and your not happy about the situation. "Please do not show stupidity by being vulgar and boisterous. Just get the point across, that you are serious and need an answer in a timely manner.

I hope this is a start to a solution. If you don't agree with what I have said, then don't call. As you talk with customer service. POST YOUR FINDINGS AND WHAT HEY HAD TO SAY TO YOU. So that others may learn a more effective way to express our concerns to Yamaha.
Hope this helps!

I would like to know the exact problem you all are having with your trannies. i beat the heck out of mine and no problems yet and i have atleast 150-200 hours on it already. what is happening to the trans? is a gear stripping or shift forks bending. what is the cause and did any of you notice any simptoms before the trans quit completely. please reply to this if you acually have problems or atleast email me about it cause i need to know the truth.

after reading quite a few emails from everyone on the raptor trans problems i found what the problem is. all the people that have had problems all tell me aobut the same and with everyones explanations i noe almost know for sure that the problem with the trans is reverse. if you dont use reverse much like me the trans problems seem to not be happening in raptors that havent been using reverse. i hope this is right so some one can let yamaha know this.
