doing it your self $40 per boot pluse if its your first time a few hrs. bring it to a dealer id say total cost $300 per side replacing one boot. or so if they dry rotted id say replace all 4.

if you rode it at all in the mud/water, you will need to clean them 100 % out and regrease to make sure they will last and make sur you put the clamps on right and tight to prevent any thing from getting into there and causing damage later on. imo.

Make damned sure you buy the factory cv boots. They fit better and the clamps are better than the aftermarket boot kits.

I spray a rubber protection spray like this http://www.autogeek.net/four-star-ul...ant-spray.html on my boots every so ofter. It says

"Four Star Ultimate Tire Protectant Spray helps keep the rubber soft and pliable while preventing dry rot, cracking, and brittleness. The high bonding Polycharger polymers give the protectant excellent staying power through rain and daily driving. Your tires will look dark and supple with an attractive satin glow."

I,m hoping it helps CV boots also, and it only takes seconds to apply. I do see the water beading on the CV boots for sure after riding ,I guess thats a good sign. Great for those long winter storage times.

Red face another quick question.

I am no professional mechanic but I have had my share of toys and have turned a few wrenches in the past. no motor work really but basics. is it that hard to clean, grease, and replace the cv boots? any special tools??? I just bought this 700twin a month ago, have ridden it 3 times, first time was good, second time it got stuck in 4wd, now the boots. and the speedo went out along with the milage. hopefully thats just a sensor though.. Thanks for all your help!!!

Default Boots

Spend the extra $ on the Polaris boots. If you have a manual you should be able to tackle the problem yourself. Make sure while you have everything apart to check hub bearings and replace if needed. I get mine off eBay and pay less for a pair than Polaris charges for one side. Also, when putting the axles back into the rear diff put some never seize on the splines first so they will be easier to get out the next time they need to be removed.

I bought the boots from mfgsupply.com and have not had any problems. It comes with a banding kit that so far has worked great for me and I see a lot of water and mud.
