Warrior CDI unit HELP !!!!!!!!!!!
#1
Ok here goes my friend has a 99 warrior he got it second hand and it was not abused but he has gone through 3 CDI's is this a problem with them are the CDI's faulty is there something else wrong do all warriors have this problem....I would not think so or no one would buy one.
He is about ready to give up on it and I would hate to lose a riding buddy.
I was thinking maybe it was a faulty voltage regulaor and it was responcible for frying the CDI's. But what do you fella's think you guy's are the yamaha experts .....I am a polaris guy myself ........Buy the way the yamaha dealer is no help to him I think he is just liking getting sales of CDI unit's and he is the only guy around.
So please guy's help out a fellow Yamaha owner or I am gonna lose a riding buddy and we all know you never have enough
THANX
Have a good one

Dont know what the problem is, im more of a banshee guy
It is very hard to determine electrical malfunctions without actually being there (at least for me) Here is what I would do if I was your friend. First off check for any bare\grounding wires that may be causing a problem, Then get a multimeter and a warrior service manual (clymer or yamaha) check out the electrical resistance on everything, check the whole dang system for that matter. It is NOT normal to go though that many CDI's, A CDI should last you many years of service without any problems. Next I would call a parts distributor (or yamadealer) outside of your area and see what they suggest, If they offer up some useful info then buy the CDI from them (hey, hes already blown enough $$ he should be able to pay for the S&H) If my local dealer were to keep selling me the same part without asking what was up, I would be a little peeved. By going through someone else, your friend is simply telling the local guy, "Hey, I dont need to waste my money on you."

I have a 98 Warrior, I took it in to get some Mods done to it. But the main reason I brought it in was it wasn't starting. It got spark but I couldn't understand why it wasn't starting. It turned out to be my stator. If your buddies CDI is actually fryin then it sounds like a short somewhere. Theres an obvious reason why he keeps fryin his CDI. Those things should last a long time. After my mod we done for some reason the dealer was able to start it. So they thought I was a squid because they were able to start it. When I brought it home it wouldn't start. I brought it back and made them fix it. I got a deal on it also because I've spent big bucks there though. Labor free plus 25% off on the stator. Like the other poster said check bare wires they could be shorting on the frame or something.
