Default 04.5 SP 500 HO plastic oil tank/plug

Went to go about changing the oil for the first time today. Didn't get far; the drain plug for the oil tank is stripped inside, not outside. I guess you could say i stripped it, simply by loosening the plug. The 9/16ths plug just spins.

Any ideas? It looks like a new oil tank is in the works. Is there a reason for plastic? It seems unbelievable to me, and I hope there is another reason besides cost of manufacturing. And if it's weight, I'll take the extra few pounds for an aluminum one.

Very frustrated and in need of help, thanks.

Thanks stendori.

I did, but none for a 2004.
There were others listed, none with part #12611786, which means I'll have to dig for years with that number.

Then there's the issue with an old one, such as alignment of mounts, oil filter lines, etc. I'd like to find an aluminum one, but not sure if I could make it work (limited skills).

How did this happen? The plug screws into something, which I think is plastic??? Should "never seize" have been applied?

Anyone ever done this?
