Default cleaned the carb today on my warrior... having an issue

i just got my warrior a couple of weeks ago... I had fuel coming out the overflow so I read that cleaning the carb was in order. I have never done this before... so I read up alot... bought a clymer's manual and dug in...

first I opened the carb and found this (after pouring out the water) :

great huh... I will be looking for a replacement carb on ebay soon.

I had to reset the pilot idle air screw after... it was out way to much and would not run once warmed up and the choke was disabled... I figure with the carb dirty the last owner turned it out to make it run better maybe?

after setting the pilot screw out two turns it runs... but I am having a issue. The idle seems to run at one rpm one minute then it goes up or down the next... runs at the higher or lower rpm for like 30 seconds before going back to where it was... any ideas as to what could cause this??? I have no way right now to set the idle speed to the 1450-1550 rpm it says in the book.

tomorrow I am going to adjusting the pilot idle screw a quater turn in each direction and adjusting the idle and see if this helps... but if anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them...

thanks

your idle set screw in the pic is the screw on the right with the spring between it and the carb

sorry should have been more clear... As I do not have a tach I have no idea what speed the engine is at. I know where the idle set screw is and it works... just have no idea where I am right now... I am going to stop out and pick up one of those sparkplug wire tachs today and see what it says...

another couple of things...

I got everything put back together and took a test spin in the street...

first thing... when high revving running down the street I would get to a point where it seemed like I was bouncing off a rev limiter... I thought the warrior did not have one... it was like the power was bouncing up and down... I only did this once or twice for a hundred feet or so... any ideas?

when I finished up and pulled into the driveway I noticed a little white smoke under acceleration with the engine all warmed up. I'm not sure about the gas that was in the tank when I got it and is what I am running... I dumped a bit of seafoam into the tank... maybe 1/8 of the bottle... the previous owner said he had new rings installed... but I have no way to really know... so what would cause white smoke under acceleration with a warm engine? There was no smoke while warming up with the choke on or while idling warm.

thanks

I think that seafoam will cause it to smoke some and it seems from the forum that newer warriors have a rev limiter.

Get an e-brake block off plate and new clutch lever and perch.Strip off the stock lever and e-brake and splice the two wires going into the old perch together, that should take care of the only rev limiter on the warrior.

I'm having the same problem with my warrior. I can only get it to run with the choke on, and sometimes it will rev really high, and then idle back down. Any ideas about what would cause this?

Mine runs fine with the choke off... The rpms are just not steady... someone on another forum said that this can happen when you are on the edge of being lean and you need to richen it up a little by raising the idle speed, or turning the pilot air out a little more.

I am going to try that tonight and see...

After sitting for two years I got my warrior out to ride again. I didn't mess with the carb before riding just drained the old gas from the tank and bowl. When I was riding it did that idle bouncing like you are describing. I could ride then stop and it would rev high for a while then return to normal. After that I cleaned the carb and that problem stopped now it won't idle without the choke slightly out. Any ideas? It really sucks when you want to ride but your bike don't run right don't it cleb?
