My 2006 Sp 450 has a CARB and has the Sure Power Module Some call it a ECM but it;s really a PDM power Dis. Mod.

On on my third one and YES they are know to send a bad reading for the HOT light......

It controls the cooling fan also and there are two solid state circuit breakers in there too!!..........People get mixed up thinking that with a CARB model there is no electronics to control the fan, breakers, temp, lights...etc.....
these are all electronic controlled..........Caper........

check the thermosistor. not shure where it is on yours but a 08 500 is on the left side on the cylinder head. has a 2pin type trailer plug(quick disconnect) it tells what the temp of the engine is. if i unplug my sensor it turns my fan on and flashes hot. found that out one day. it evon turns my fan on when the keys off. i had an issue with the sensor back on my 00 sportsman. it flashed hot and the fan ran all the time. but check it with an ohm meter. 185 ohms the hot light is on at 245ohm the fan is on. id start there. easy check.
