Maxxis bighorns or itp terracross For the 550 XP???
#1
Looking to buy new tires for my dad’s New 550 XP EPS, need some input on both tires. I’m looking for all-round tire that’s good for trail riding on hard pack and rocky trails and mud. Which tire would ride the smoothest and or last the longest? Going to stay with stock rims. Thanks

Bighorns will be your best bet. They last forever. Remember they run on size larger than other tires. Meaning a 26 is really a 27. I have had them on both my Rincon and now my SP800. I put 25's on mine and love them.

Aother vote for the BH's or the BH2.0s..I don't have any experience with the Terracrosses and while I am sure they are a good tire I can't imagine them being any better than the BHs and I know when I was looking awhile back the TCs were quite a bit more expensive.
The BHs will run a little larger than stated as thor said the 26" 2.0s I have are about 26.5 mounted on the machine but they will be just fine on the 550 probably won't even notice a difference in power from the stockers, maybe a little but the difference is minimal.

I have the Terracross and really like the tires. The radials ride VERY smooth and the traction is twice what the stockers were. Steering is also better than with the stock tires. Terracross tires run true to size. I have been very impressed and I highly recomend these tires.
ITP tires are made in the USA.

Nice to hear they are made in the US! That's worth a few extra bucks for sure.

BTW, the Duro tires were great on the trail... not sure in mud or durabilty. He liked them so much, he's getting another set for his new Suzuki 750 EPS.

I have the BigHorns on my 08 800EFI and love the white letters and the traction they give me. I also have a set of terra cross r/t on my sons 07 500EFI and they seem to do very well also. The Bighorns have about 600 miles on them and seem to not show any wear... very durable. The Terra crosses have about 400 miles on them and show slight wear.. the terra cross tires are 8" wide on the front and the Bighorns are 9" making the terra crosses seem to turn better. If I had to choose a set right now... I would go with the bighorns. Hope this helps...
