Question Is this a good idea?

I own a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 700 and I believe the starter and bendix needs replaced soon.

I was cruising around the net and saw that I could purchase a new "aftermarket" starter and bendix for my machine for $119.95 plus shipping and includes a 1 year warranty... from an outfit called "DB electrical" in Tenessee.

Has anyone dealt with these guys and recommend them or should I stay away from these guys?
Is there anyone else I should look at or who do you recommend?

Thanks for your input guys!

Question DB

Great people to deal with. Bought it for buddies 05 700, only lasted 3 months. On the plus side, they sent another new one and did not want old one back. Have since rebuilt the original Polaris starter so now we have a back up for our trips.

Sweet!
Thanks for the reply guys!

They looked pretty legit but never dealt with them nor did I know anyone who has.

I'll probably order the stuff this weekend.

Make sure your battery is good before you replace the starter, if battery gets weak the twins will act like the starter is going, they will spin the bendix but not engage the starter.

What I'm getting is the starter turns the motor over very slowly until the engine fires. The starter acts like the battery is almost dead.

BUT, fifty percent of the times the bendix does not engage but the starter seems to spin fast and free. Doesn't matter if the engine is cold or hot, the symptons remain the same.

The battery seems fine and is kept charged on a charger/maintainer (BatteryMinder Plus), although I haven't done a specific gravity test of each cell...

It has been suggested by someone or read somewhere to "clean" the bendix, but I'm not sure if that would take care of the problem.

What do you all think from this description of the problem?

Is it a battery issue or a starter issue?
