I can get new 2008 Indy Red 2008 500 EFI Touring for 6499.00. I would ride single, but like the price, and idea of 2 up if wanted. It would be used for groomed trail riding. I would just add winch and fuel packs to start with. Along with flat tire kit.

Opinions?. Anybody own one?. Likes, Dislikes, necessary add ons?.

 

Got an 800 touring - 08 a few months back. Love it so far, but haven't really ridden it too much. Mine was new from a dealer, and was able to get it for $6501 - plus taxes, etc. More storage is desired - they do make a wrap around storage if you want too keep the seat on, or you can by a piece that replaces the seat and is a larger storage box. They are a bit long - mine still fits in the bed of my shortbed, but the rear tires are on the tailgate.

 

I have two and think they are great! I'm about 220# and have had my grandson who is 130# on the back. The machine climbs and rides great. Some feel the 800 is better because of the extra power, if I was muddin , I'd probably agree. Most of my riding is trails, rock crawling, and other slow technical riding, I don't need the speed or extra power and enjoy the better gas mileage of the 500. Sounds like for your riding the 500 would be fine, but that's something you need to think about. One other thing, the longer wheelbase of the Touring model gives a much more stable ride than the regular Sportsman, especially when climbing. The two up is nice, but it has advantages for single riders too. JMHO of course.

 

I love my 800 touring. I mainly ride one-up and find the longer wheel base adds stability, and the ride is better than anything out there in terms of comfort.

 

It sounds to me like the 500 would be fine for your riding conditions. I have the X2 500 EFI and it has pulled my 350 plus a 200 lb. passenger with ease. I think the Touring has a softer rear suspension than the X2, but stiffer than the regular Sportsman.
