Default Purchasing first ATV....what to watch out For!

Hiya Folks,
Bought many a car but never an ATV. What do the dealers have up their sleeves that I should be watching out for? I've gotten pre-approved for financing with my bank so if they can beat my rates then fine. I've looked into insurance as well so have a pretty good idea of what that'll run. So what will the dealer try to sell me at the last minute (ie. similar to the "undercoating" that many a car dealer have tried to sell me) or any Gotcha's that I should be aware of? It's a Polaris dealer.
Cheers,
cc

I was suprised by a Set up and freight fee of $1k. Didn't know a thing about it until the very end. Make sure you ask for the out the door price which should include any fees and taxes.

Yes, watch the out the door fees. We have a local store everyone told us to stay clear of. Went there anyway. Asked for the out the door price and they had about $2,000 in fees, taxes and such added to the price. Now I know why I was told not to go there.

Purchsed off the internet with only $249 in dealer fees. A big difference.

Thumbs down

First off if it is a Polaris dealer, run screaming from the building and never go back!!!

I have never found an extended warranty to be worth it...but I ride Hondas.

Do as much homework as possible before negotiating with the dealer. Try to decide what you want before talking prices with the salesman. Test drive with no commitment to the salesman, use the internet such as this board to get as many questions answered as possible.

Salesmen are good at moving you up to a bigger more expensive machine if you let them. They also will try to add accessories during the sales process. Accessories are ok if you know you will need them. As all others said -- negotiate an out the door price (i.e. the check will be exactly this amount).

Serriously consider all options there are on the market for the class of ATV you are looking for. Another trick I have picked up from my dad is the classic price war, they aren't going to try that hard since you are financing but having several dealers compete for your business is fun.

Thanks folks for the advice. I've committed to buy an 850XP and should take delivery next week. I ultimately contacted dealers in 4 states and got what I think is a pretty good price. I'm paying $8400 for it. It's stripped of any accessories but that's how I wanted it. Ahh well, now the waiting game!
