Has anyone reinforced there reese hitch to use a GroundHog MAX or anything similar? the hitch tube that comes with it works fine but you loose a lot of ground clearance and I tried to use it with the reese on my 08, 500Ho and it started to bend the top of the reese in about 10 min of use. The GroundHog MAX works great I just wish I had the ground clearance back because some of the places I am putting food plots are pretty rough to get to. Anny suggestions are greatly appreciated.

 

Judging by the design you would have to spend considerable effort to strengthen your hitch. The design appears to put some extremely heavy vertical loads on your ATV hitch. Hit a rock or hard ground and something is going to bend or break.

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using one. It seems like it would be extremely hard on your hitch. Instead of loading the hitch horizontally as the hitch is designed to take load it loads your hitch vertically. That can't be healthy for the hitch attachment point. Like putting way too much tongue weight on it but instead of forcing the hitch down it forces it up.

Seems like a perfect way to bend the receiver hitch on your ATV or tear the thing off completely.

What I am asking is there a way to strengthen the light Reese hitch that is on a 08 500 Sportsman it is way to light for this. The auxiliary hitch that comes with the disk goes under the frame and is about 18 inches long but it hangs down about 2 1/4 in and the 3 bolts that mount it stick down another inch or two. I will send pix when I get home I am travleing at this time.

 

id compleatly agree with this.

but if you have a welder and some time im shure it can be done. youd need to weld under the hitch and pieces around the hich. but personaly id just get like a 3point system.
