Default Coupla questions re my '06 Sportsman

I just got an '06 Sportsman 450 and did not get an owner's manual with it. I've ordered one, but in the eantime can anyone tell me why the wrench icon comes up everytime I start it? It was just serviced so i'm not sure what it's telling me.

Also, if I use it for stop and go riding - (15 minutes off and about 5-6 minutes on), the fan kicks on which is normal, but should I put the machine in neutral and let the engine idle til the fan stops before turning it off? That seems like a lot of extra hours.

does the wrench icon flash on and off or does it just come on then go off like the check engine light on a vehicle?

and no there is no need to stop and let it cool off..the best way is to run it faster to get more air pushed thru the radiator.

No running it faster is not a good idea. Thats wrong. You could burn up your machine if its to hot! If it is flashing 'HOT" on the speedo shut it off and turn your key back to the on position. This will let the fan run pulling air through the radiator cooling evrything with the engine off so it can also cool. If you just mean the fan is running but it is not flashing "HOT" on the speedo when you stop its fine to shut off. But if you wanna help it cool between "stop and go's" just leave the key on so the fan can run with engine off. When it reaches a cooler temp it will turn the fan off and you can turn the key off.

Yes, it just flashes each time I start it but goes out after a minute, so I'm guessing it's safe, but what does the icon stand for (in case it doesn't go out)?

If it is flashing 'HOT"
No it doesn't falsh 'hot', just the fan comes on. I tried to get the fan to stay on with the key, kind of like the car radio once you shut the engine off, but it won't run.

Thanks for the info. It's a great machine so far!

your kill switch needs to be in the run position, engine off, key on and if it still doesnt come back on it just means its at a reasonable temp and it wont come on.

The wrench icon can be used as a service reminder for the owner. It can be set to flash once a certain number of hours has been reached. Since you just had the quad serviced, chances are the tech didn't reset it for the next service interval, and the wrench icon is flashing to remind you that its time for service.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, just keep an eye on fluids while you wait for your manual. Should it come on and stay flashing, then there's a problem and something is wrong, but if it goes out; you're OK.

You can probably Google 'Polaris Wrench Icon' and find out how to reset it now, if you want.

The wrench{service engine soon icon}flashes for about 30 seconds or so after You start the machine it then should go off and not flash again until another restart,if it comes on and flashes after You have had it out and are riding it then it is time to get it looked at.

If the fan is running when you turn it off,do not worry about it. The fact the motor is not running cools the motor down.

I see people do it though, turn the motor off then turn on the key to get the fan running when the motor is not running. Your just wasting the battery doing that. What can cool off a motor better then it not running I say.

not only that but water isnt getting circulated anymore. all your doing is cooling water that is in the radiator. that rad isnt very big to begin with..not abunch of water getting cooled there
