did clutch job, now wont start

Just changed the clutch on my warrior because it was slipping, and now it wont start. It sputters a little, but refuses to start. Its getting fuel and spark, could have we messed up the timing? thanks

not flooded, we messed up the timing on teh crank. It skipped a tooth on the crankshaft. Is there any way to find TDC on crank shaft when the flywheel where the magneto is, is off? I know that flywheel thing has a T for top and F for fire, but once that flywheel is off, will my friend beable to find tdc just with the crank. Also is this an interference engine, will the valves hit the piston if its out of time. thanks

the only way it could have slipped a tooth is if you messed with the timming chain . I'm not sure what your doing messing with the flywheel because its on the other side of the bike ? The clutch is on the rightside of the bike and the flywheel is on the other . If you took the flywheel off you may have lost the woodruff key that holds the flywheel on the crank . It looks like a half circle and goes on the crank . If you go to Yamaha of Troy .com you can look up your bike and see a parts list and also see how they are assembled .

you can use the keyways to set for TDC and there should be a mark inside the engine casing itself to line it up with the stator and flywheel out, to do clutch work thats on the other side of the engine....are you talking about the starter clutch maybe? idno lol

you can see how u need the little half moon key and the pin also number 21 and 6, also i think there should be a straight cut key behind that little pin, its not shown on the picture for some reason

my friend used an impact wrech to remove the big bolt for clutch, and I think when he did that, we moved the crank fast and skipped a tooth. It sputters a little, gets plenty of fuel, not flooded, has spark, and turns over like usual. It ran perfect before clutch install, started right up. We looked on the cam and sator fly wheel thing and they wont line up perfectly. WHen the T is lined up on the flywheel, the line is a litte off on the cam gear. We got it close and it sputtered more, so we believe its off time on the crank.

update: my friend fixed my rig, he said it was teh timing chain but I really didnt talk to him much. It runs and idles fine now, but misses a little sometimes on acceleration. I only drove it for 2 min but it seems to go pretty good, but doesnt run as good as before. If the timing is a little off, could it be adjusted through the tensioner? Thanks for the info though.

there's a viewing plug on the left side with a big slot in it for a flathead screwdriver. And the tensioner is designed to be in 100% of the time.. you can't just "back it out a little"
I'd try adjusting your valve clearances.
