Default 2007 Grizzly purchase....

Hey gents, I have a chance at a brand new 2007 Grizzly at my local dealer for about $4800 bucks. He has two left, red and blue. I figured I'd check with ya and see if there are any major known trouble areas with the 2007 models. I did some searching for reviews for it but came up empty. I know that in 2009 the Grizzly has a 450 motor and has some new stuff but I dont mind the 400 mill. I really like the Auto trans and the IRS that you get with the quad. I was hoping to get fuel injection but you have to go up to the 550 axi for that. Anyways...

It seems like a good buy to me. They were $5800 back in 2007. I know its a few years old but they are still in the crate and the warranty and everything else applies.

Thanks in advance!

I have a '07 Grizzly 450, that motor has been around for years. The 400 is a little smaller, doesn't have diff lock. But, is still a great quad. That doesn't sound like a bad price for a new quad either. Fuel injection is nice, but necessary, carbed quads once warmed up will run fine, even in the winter. IRS is a great feature, don't know how much you love it until you ride with a solid axle for a while.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, diff lock would be cool but Im not into too much mudding, just the basic stuff. I could also get a 2008 Big Bear for about the same price but the manual gear change bugs me since Im used to autos.

When you say smaller, how much smaller than the 450 is the 400? I assumed the dimensions were about the same between the two? Im 6'1" 250....

Same size bike, just smaller motor. 07' had 450 and 400 available on same frame. 400 just didn't have diff lock and I believe you lose the low gear also.
Depending on where you live you could pick up a brand new 400 for about 5k. $4800 seems a little steep for a 2 almost 3 year old bike. You could probably talk them down to around the 4k range.

Malichi is right. I would talk them down as much as you can. An 07 is still 2 or 3 years old in the eyes of a buyer that is buying a used quad so even though it's new when you go to sell it when you want to upgrade it will have depreciated 3 years faster then you've owned it. I was going to buy an 07 left over but for the price difference an 09 gave me more security when it comes time to sell. JMO

Correct on losing low gear, I verified that. The new 450 also has an LCD display. Hmmm... I thought that $4800 seemed good but maybe you guys are right? I look at it like this: To get the same features in an '09, IRS, 400+ cc motor, CVT auto, I'd have to spend pretty close to $6K. I know that two years is a difference....but since it was $5800 new I figured the depreciation had partially been taken already if I bought it for $4800?

You guys are right though...I should hammer him more. It is an '07. Maybe I can say $4500 AND I want a set of Mudlites installed & a couple helmets/ pairs of gloves thrown in before I pick it up.

If it was $5800 new they are charging quite a bit more than what I've looked at. I was looking at the 450 grizz and 400 big bear last year and prices were about the same at $5600 for the grizz and $5400 for the big bear.
I didn't even price out a 400 since it didn't have low and I use mine for work around the yard alot, but I'm betting could have been gotten for right around $5000.

Good idea on the extras, cause at this point they just want it out of the shop to make room for new models. Have them toss on a winch while they're at it.
Start low and work your way up to $4.5, you might be suprised how much they want it gone.

When I say $5800 I meant MSRP. Im sure they sold them for less than that back in '07. Either way, yeah, time to wheel and deal if I decide to go this route. The price is very attractive.... but the '09 450 also has me interested! Thanks for the replies!

Compare with the Polaris 400 HO (High Output). Has 455cc engine, bigger than both.

I did check out Polaris and a few others. The issue here is that the "new" '07 Grizzly is far cheaper than any of those other machines. If I decide NOT to go with the 2007 Grizzly then other choices are possible. I still like Yamahas CVT system the best though and thats a HUGE issue as far as Im concerned.
