I just bought it and it has at, irs,eps and I put some 26" ITP Mudlite XL's on it. It does not seem to have the power to turn the tires very well. I needed to move a shooting house so I hooked to it and in 2 wheel drive it barely would turn the tires and in 4x4 would not turn any of them. The motor would just bog down. Even just riding it in some wash outs at times it just would not turn the tires.

Is my tires to aggresive or is it just geared to high or ???

 

It's kind of a mix, Rancher's are geared a bit higher than a Foreman, so they don't have all the grunt to do stuff like that. But then going up 2 tire sizes doesn't help either. I put 26's on my Foreman 500(1 size up) and could feel an immediate power loss, I can't imagine what it would feel like on a Rancher.

 

did you try the manual shift mode and stay in "1st gear"?

 

yes I did try it in both modes but it did not make a difference. I put 25" mudlites on my 03 Rancher and it handels them great so I fiqured 1 more size up should be ok with the 420

 

Do you still have the stock tires? You could put those on for a ride and try pulling the same shooting house and see if it pulls it. Otherwise something could be screwy with the motor.

 

yeah, i have yet to see an engine bog down. usually, it will spin the tires if anything. there might be an issue with the powertrain somewhere...

 

i have 27's on my 350 with no problems

 

I put 25's on my 04 AT and could feel a signifcant difference, still pulls ok but not like the 24s

 

One of the dumbest ideas around is to ruin the sweet little Rancher with a set of huge tires!

If one needs huge tires to feed their ego or whatever....start with a bigger machine.....

Should of bought the 5 speed manual tranny,there true cog on cog, put a manual 420 in its low 1st gear and it should turns any tires or snap the axles tying. My manual with low range 350 Big bear would.

Honda's Auto trannies rely on fluids pressure and just can not be as efficient as the manuals to get power to the wheels in high load conditions.

Case in point, a 500 Foreman can pull harder then a 680 Rincon auto. The 500 Rubicon is the only auto that has a "Low range" option which should be on all Automatics.
