hi i just joined and i got a 300ex from a friend the timing chain pop off so i put it back on but didnt set the timing how do you set it. and i wont to mod this thing out for speed what all would i need to do this. the mods can be done later. i just want to ride now so i need help on the timing please thanks guys.

 

It's not like an old car where you rotate the distributor. The timing chain has to be installed on the gear a certain way. I believe at at top dead center and then the gear has to be indexed so the ***** mark is at the top and the lines line up to the top of the head cover. But you better check this in a manual. And if you don't have one, and plan to do this kind of work yourself, get one.
