Ok guys, new here, not new to fixing engines

well a few days ago I went to fire up the grizzly. It started right up, warmed up, and even idled fine. a minute after I turned the choke off it just fell flat on it face and wouldn't do nothing more then crank until the battery died. So I started taking things apart. I found the choke cable nut on the carb was broken in half so I got a new one (cheap plastic). But that didnt change anything So I thought the carb was dry and put a rag over the intlet so suction could do its work. Still nothing. *PETCOCK OPEN* So I tried a gas soaked rag this time. Fired right up! Take the gas rag off and it falls on its face.


Now I finally got the carburetor off, and took the float bowl off....DRY as the Sahara and pretty clean. I put the gas tank on a bench, hooked it up to the carb, and turned the petcock on. No gas whatsoever comes out of the bottom of the carb. Gas comes out really easy from the tank. I've tried compressed air to clear the blockage for the fuel. Still no avail. Any suggestions? Maybe a needle clogged or backed in or out?

 

Check the float needle and seat. It's probably just gummed up from old fuel and won't allow any new fuel in. Since you were able to run the old gas out of it, you might have gummed up other parts also.
Should clean all jets and passages while you've got it apart.

 

Ok sounds good. Is there an online pdf version of the grizzly 660? I've been using one for the raptor 660 which somewhat helps but would like if there was one for the grizzly. Anyways off to go check it out

FIXED! Part number 19 was the problem! The inside needle was stuck! WD40 and some patience!

 

I had this exact same problem on my 2005 Grizzly a few years ago. I have since learned to idle the gas out of the bowl each time I'm going to let it sit for awhile. I haven't had this problem since.

 

One other point. An old trick on Holly carbs was to take a screwdriver handle and tap the part of the carb which houses the needle assembly. Sometimes, this frees the needle if it's sticking. This worked (at first) on my grizzly before it seized completely.

 

During a recent carb swap on my 660, I managed to break that choke cable nut by over tightening. Cheap plastic is right!! I've been looking for a replacement but told I have to buy the entire "Starter Set" - part#5km-1410a-00-00. Is that true, or were you able to locate just the nut?

You must buy the "starter set" which is number 23 in the diagram. Comes with boot, nut, seal, spring, and needle. Its not too too much money

 

well instead of mine not starting it runs great. just once i shut it off about 5 min later the fuel starts to pour out the over flow tube. ???????

 

Sounds like the same problem, except your needle and seat are not sealing,and allowing gas to keep running into the carb bowl, when it gets too high,it runs out the overflow port. My Wolverine did the same until I put a new needle and seat in, my old one looked fine, but leaked like a sieve. The only other cause would be a sunk float, it is full of gas so it sinks when sitting, opening the needle and seat and letting gas by. My money is on the needle and seat.
