1993 300ex starter wont engage

1993 300ex starter wont engage
I have a 1993 honda 300ex and my starter just spins and will not turn over the motor. I just dont know how it works, i looked at the microfiche but i dont understand cause it doesnt have a bendix or any springs. can anyone help?
