Default polaris 400 xplorer ?s

well lets see what all i want to know...this is the first polaris ive ever owned good looking little bike...ok how do you find out what year it is it didnt come with title....does it have an oil filter and where is it? how much oil will it hold and where do you add oil?only dip stick if found is to the tranny....with the breather on it runs like crap take it off its a beast clogged breather i know but i want to snorkle it anyone done it and how?there are 2 hose barbs on the carb one on top and one on the bottom i figure bottom would be overflow there are also two vent tubes one from tranny other is from crank case i tried hookin em to the carb that didnt work out so well ran crappy reved really high and stayed that was for a few seconds before it went back to idle and died...i was gonna be smart and mix the gas and oil myself i put it in the tank mixed it a little rich 50:1 plus the oil tank had oil in it so it smokes pretty good...gonna bypass the oil tank seen a few jetskies burn up because of the oil injector any other tips you gals or guys can give will be helpful like i said this is the first polaris and i know diddly bout em and this post is getting very long my fingers hurt..lol......also i was riding today went about 2 miles packin a good bit of weight say 600lbs including me i had it in low range about half throttle the whole way well i got thereand the exhaust was so hot it looked like it had a fire going in it...i drilled holes in the end of the pipe to open it up some dont know if this was a boo boo or not on the 2 stroke but i did it..it just looked funny with the exhaust coming out of that little down pipe maybe it was so hot because of the breather being stopped up?

no need to bypass oil tank..the oil system on these motors are darn near flawless. there is a counterbalance oil should find the dip stick just below the carb on the right hand side of the motor. IIRC it only holds like 4.5 oz or something like that.
the barbs your found on the carb are overflow. put tubes on them about 8 in. long and itll be ok. same thing with the barb you found on the tranny. put a tube on it. helps keep water out. dont know nuthin about snorkels...seems like another item for beer *****. "oh my bike is snorkeld i can make it though that."

yep thats the oil fill...should just unscrew and pull right now...although they did have a problem with those plastic ones breaking. they are superseded with an all aluminum one now

To find out the year. It has a serial number on the frame by the front of the bike and mine says the year on that tag…And it doesn’t have an oil filter because you mix the oil in the gas(2 stroke) and it only takes about 40 to 50 ml in the counter balance (the rod and crank bearings) so not much oil at all just to keep it lubed…The dip stick is a little tricky..take the breather box out and look down behind the cylinder and u will it it’s kinda hard to get out but that’s where u check it and fill it…The hoses on the carb well I’m have the same trouble…but I figured out yesterday that the hose on top is a vacuum fit the fuel that’s why your bike is acting up mine is doing the same I just don’t know where that hose goes….but the top hose is definitely one reason is not running correctly.. so if u find out anything more on that please share with me I know it’s the reason just don’t know where or how….I’m also having trouble with mine sucking all the coolant out of the radiator and dumping it in the oil some people say run thicker oil..some say water pump seals some say head gasket…. Trying to figure it out
