scrambler 500 vs renegade 500

i went to my dealer, but i cant decide on the scrammy or the gade 500, any problems with the scramblers, i know that the can ams are fast because i have a 650 outlander and i figure the renegade 500 would be just as fast as my outlander, what do you think. i do alot of trails, hill climbing and mudding, and fast cruising

Rode a Renegade 500 at a show. Very quick for a 500. Will be faster than the Scrambler without a problem in my mind. Alot of people like it better than the Renegade 800 as the motor overpowers the steering on the 800 more than the 500 does.

Is it worth the $2000 more than a Scrambler? I dont think so.Scramblers are an awsome machine if you want a do everything machine.

I even rode a 400cc built by Hot Seat, with every mod you can think of....the thing was fast as heck but it still handled like crap....There just is not a lot of potential in that chassis as it stands......

ive always liked the scrambler , but i do have some concerns. why is it made for rough terrain and chain driven in the rear. i wouldnt feel safe crossing water constantly with a chain and sprocket, and the overall apperance looks cheap too. but i like the power and the sportier feel. do they hold up, my dealer says good things but hes trying to sell it

scrammy 500 is a very old platform... while i think they have the kinks all worked out of reliability by now, I would take this thing down to cost... I think the renegades are outright scary going downhills in the mountains... they seem very out of control compared to a comfy sportsman 700 or 500. So if you can save $2000 and spend that on going riding-- i'd get the scrambler. if power is everything... yeah the renegade.

Maybe your best bet would be to wait to see how the newly redesigned 2010 Scramblers compare to the Renegades. The 2010's have a sharp new look and other changes over the older model. Not sure, but the motor may even be different 498cc for the new vs 499cc for the old. The new specs are up at the polaris website.
That being said I chose a 09 Scrambler 500 over a 09 Renegade 500. Cost was a factor, but I just preferred the look and feel of the Scrammy more.So far it's been well worth it.
Dec 2008 Dirt Wheels has a shootout of the 3 sport 4x4s Scrambler 500, Renegade 500 and Wolverine 450.There's also a review of it on youtube YouTube - ATV On Demand Test, 2009 Polaris Scrambler 500 Test
Good luck.
