Scrambler 400 starting problems
#1
I just bought a 95 scrambler and when I got it home, I cleaned the carb. I don't know much about carbs, but hope someone can give me a little guidance. It is a major pain in the butt to get started. I have to choke it and give all throttle at roughly half way through the motion of pull starting. If I don't get it the first time, it backfires the next try. After I do get it running is seems to run fine, not quite as powerful as I thought but have nothing to compare it to (new to quads). I am wondering if I accidentily bumped something when cleanin the carb, and how do I try to set all setting back to stock ranges. Thanks for any and all help

I did that today, and it helped a little but it is still a beast to get started. I changed the plug, set the mixture screw out 1 &1/2 turn out from seat. I didn't seem to change anything. Thanks for the help though

Sounds like a choke problem. Got a service manual? I am not use to this new format that that this site changed to, but there ought to be a history search on carburators, which will show you step by step how to take the carb off and bebuild it. There is a plunger in the choke... it may be defective. Keep asking and reseaching
