Setting IDLE (SP800)
#1
All, I am averging about 1280 to 1310 RPMS on my SP800. Is that normal?
Also, if I do set the IDLE lower, would it just be less throttle repsonse? Or could low idle do any damage to the motor or carb?
Thanks for the input!
Cheers,

Your right EFI not Carb. Recent memories of my SP450 making idle adjustments with cleaning the CARB. Okay so something is going on here w/my SP800. Suggestions as to what is making my RPMs so HIGH?

1st..Check the throttle body/butterfly valve LOTS of time these will gum up opening the butterfly valve a lil resulting in a higher idle. You can get throttle body cleaner at parts store use a tooth brush/brush too..... There is a procedure for adjusting the idle in the service manual (EFI)....I would check/CLEAN the throttle body FIRST...
OOOOPS! I just noticed you are running K&N.There has been a lot of riders with K&N filters with the throttle body gumming up the butterfly valve resulting in the higher idle. If you keep running the K&N be sure NOT to have excess oil on the filter when cleaning/reinstalling!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool thanks for the info. ! UTU I was exp this high RPM with my paper filter. I did however put my K&N back in and the high RPM is consistent. I am leaning more to the throttle body or something else. All good info. thanks a bunch gentleman!
