Default gas cap - sportsman 600 2003

are the gas caps supposed to leak gas when the gas tank is full (& almost full) and your are riding? is there a fix for this.

hey, I have a 2003 sportsman 500 (I'm assuming it would be the same thing) and my gas cap has never leaked, but I have had gas comming out of the air vent tube when my tank is full. Make sure the gas cap has a the rubber seal in it and that the seal is not twisted or out of place.

the gas cap on my 600 does not have a 'vent tube' like i see on most other brand atv's.

Thanks for clarifying the vent tube chuck raduenz, my cap does not have the vent tube in it either. As long as the gas cap has the rubber seal in it and it is on tight it should not leak.

if you crank down these gas caps extremly tight, you could actually crack the gas tank filler neck where the cap screws on to. w/ a good rubber it shouldnt take alot of pressure to seal the cap.
