Shifter shaft broke on a 2000 Honda Rancher 350. Honda wants $300.00 to repair. Does anyone know how hard this is to replace?

 

The "shifter shaft" is 2 piece , gearshift spindle (which the gearshift bolts to) and the sub-gearshift spindle (which runs from the rear of the engine to the front of the engine) ..

The gearshift spindle is located under the alternator cover and can be changed in a couple of hours as long as the swingarm bearings are good ...
The sub-gearshift spindle is located inside the crankcase and the cases must be split to change it ..
