84 TRX200SX carb racing?? Please Help!
#1
I have just acquired an 84 TRX200SX that I'm trying to get running. I have cleaned the carb and re-installed but when I try to start it, it races to full throttle...have to turn off the key! I have the pilot adjusted according to the manual but I noticed that the slow speed jet, (that they say in the manual is pressed in), which it isn't, I was able to unscrew it out of the carb. However, I could not seem to clean out the center of this jet no matter how small of wire I tried to push through...sure seemed that there should be a whole in the middle!? Any suggestions out there? Thank you.

Honda never made the TRX200SX is 1984 .. In 1984 Honda made the TRX200 which was shaft drive.. In 1986 Honda started making the TRX200SX which was chain drive ..
The carb should have been dis-assembled and soaked in carb cleaner .. As for the engine running full throttle well that sounds like you installed the throttle slide 180* out .. On 1 side of the slide is the cutout for the idle screw on the other side is the groove that the slide runs up/down on ..

Thanks for the response HondaMechanic! Hmmm, I guess I'll have to turn the slide around and see if it makes any difference! Thought it didn't matter how they were inserted!? It was that way before I took the carb apart. I'll change it this morning and post my results. Thanks again for the response!
P.S. I got the 84 TRX200SX from running the VIN online...it showed an 84 TRX200SX. The bike does have a drive shaft so, it must be an 84 trx200. I was wondering why I didn't find an 84 trx200sx when looking for parts!! Thanks for the clarification.
HondaMechanic, you hit it right on the head! No more racing engine! Duhh!! I guess the original owner put the slide in 180 out and I just repeated it when I took the carb apart. The motor still won't idle or anything probably due to the slow jet needle not getting cleaned out enough...I do assume there's supposed to be a hole all the way through it!? I tried the smallest gas weld cleaning needles and couldn't seem to get one through!
