Default Radiator protection

I have an OEM Polaris brush guard up front, but I found out (the hard way) it really doesn't protect the radiator. Long story short, I have a new $300 radiator, and figure I better find some better protection for underneath. Curious if there is some aftermarket add ons for more protection? If not, I am thinking about getting some smaller round stock and make a better guard. This would be for my 08 800 touring

Last winter I ALMOST found-out the hard way! I was riding through deep snow with thin ice on top which was crunching against the radiator area but I didn't think much about it until I returned home.

The little protective screen was squished against the radiator and put a couple nicks in it.

I re-bent the screen and never thought much about it until now reading your topic.

Any ideas out there????????????

Found these when I searched before:

Jamhard but no longer available

and this

Polaris Sportsman and X2 04-08 Radiator Rock Guard #130

hopefully the links work...

The second one looks pretty basic, and am thinking I can make the exact piece at work / home for far less.

Off road was changing a rad a pain of a job? I like the Rock Guard #130 it looks light and easy to install and cheap to buy. Who needs a full aftermarket Bumper to protect the whole OEM Bumper?

eh - not bad, and overall fairly easy.

Remove - front storage compartment
loosen front brush guard and swing down (if you have one)
Take of front clip
two bolts on top holding radiator to frame
two bolts to remove to swing the front frame down to get radiator out
of course remove hoses
a few parts of the wiring harness to unplug (three to unplug on top) and unplug fan
4 bolts to remove to take off fan

Re-install

and thats bout it - I did it about 4 times already, mainly when I was on vacation trying to do a temp repair on my busted radiator. I'm like a nascar pit person and can do it in about 4 minutes - lol.

yeah that would work, but I already have a different grill guard so hate to spend more on another. I'm thinking I can make something for pretty cheap so will probably go that route.

yeah but it looks like the stock stone guard with some round stock welded to it. Unless the mesh is thicker then our stock one.
