Terb et al,

What would be the avg. time it would take to replace a belt. Its hard to gauge from Videos (Edits and all)? I have heard horror stories of trail belt changes on the new XP but from the Video it doesn't seem too bad. But I guess you would need to carry a jack or block or something for bracing the ATV for tire removal. Maybe that is the PITA part of it, don't know?

Thanks,

R'

In the garage with jack and air tools 15-20 minutes. On the trail no mud with the right tools and a way to get the tire off 45 minutes. If it's full of belt pieces you would need to add the time to clean them out to your total.

I havn't read about anybody having to change belts on the trial yet. Guess I missed those posts.

I'm looking for a small jack to keep for unlikely belt change in the bush. The more pressing issue is tire blowouts with a big gash in the sidewall. I guess eventually you can limp home though. With a blown belt, you're going nowhere. Just depends how far, how deep you intend to go, and with whom you will rely on to get safely back to civilization.

Yea I agree FR! If I had a nice backyard say a 6 plus acres to fart around on then I could see no serious need for a ride buddy. But unfortunately where I have to go to ride are the trails 2 hrs away. Which equal lots gear to keep in the truck and some stored in/on ATV to boot. I will never ride solo out on those trails just because more times often than not when we go riding, SOMETHING HAPPENS! Stuck, Lost (Happened down in Hatfield-umarked portion of trails), Breaks, break-downs, flats, accidents, something.

The times when we do and its an uneventful outting then its a good day...8-)

I guess the 20 min change the belt on the side of the trail trail days are gone with the new Polaris. No matter I never carry a extra belt on ATVs like I do with sleds anyways.

I dont normally carry a jack but to remove tires before i have either used a piece of wood or also pushed the machine over on its side. Definetly easier with freinds. Not the safest gives you the option to work on machine or in the case of the XP change belts.

On the 2010 550 X2 the clutch cover goes down throught the frame instead out the side in case anybody gets into that situation.

All the new 550 and 850 take more time and patience to change belts.

i just changed a belt last night on an 09 polaris 850 xp. now this is the 3rd time its been done to this machine so im pretty good at it i recommend putting and anerobic seal on the clutch case after getting done to ensure no water gets in there. but yes ideally takes about 25 to 35 min to do
