Default 1993 350l ignition switch wiring

OK got a question for the gurus. I was putting a new ignition switch in one of my 350's and got lost on the wiring. There are only four wires on the switch, and cant figure out where they get plugged in on the circuit board. There is one red, one black, one red with black stripe, and one solid red. Does anyone know where they plug in on the circuit board?

Thanks a ton for any help,

Jeff

im guessing there is a power wire in there some where for an igntion sorace, and then there is the engine kill circuit for the other 2 wires. get a test light or a volt meter. check for battery power. then that wire will power one of the other 3 wires for an ign sorce for headlights and what not. then check the switch for a through circuit for the lights. if you get the lights to work. the the other 2 wires are a no brainer.

well it seems that only 96 and later models used the red-black wire, but im going to assume that the red black is the same as the red-white wire that the wiring diagram calls for. refer to this post it should help you out...

Yes the ignition is a used one off of a 96 400 (bought it for 10 bucks). I figure that it shouldn't matter, they look completly the same except the secondary color on the red\white red\black wire. I will try it tonight.

And thanks a ton, your answer was exactly what I was looking for.

Wiring diagram worked perfect. Now I find that the starter is draging. So, I will be pulling that out this weekend. I hate doing this job, because, I have to pull both clutches, and the case covers.

Once again,
Thanks for the help

ugh... pulling the starter and bendix is just plain annoying. hope all goes well with it.

just wondering, what clutches are you talking about pulling? because on my 400 all you have to do is remove the pull start and chain.

On a 1993 350l the starter is behind the back clutch cover. unless you are telling me that I can get to it another way

to be honest i am not completely familiar with a 350, but i was always under the impression that the 350 is nearly the same externally as a 400.

I removed my bottom skid plate, the chain guard, chain, pull start and pulled the starter out from the bottom. Had to remove the pullstart as there are bolts in there bolting the starter to the block. Maybe yours is different ???

I never thought about that, I just knew that when I had the clutches and clutch cover off, I could see the starter. I'm not sure, but I didn't know that the bottom skid plate would come off, I will have to look tonight.

Thanks again, you have been a wealth of knowledge
