Cool A Polaris Display Puzzle

Hi Everyone.... here's the scoop...

My 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. has an issue. The needle on the display needle started flashing, along with a battery symbol. Took it to dealer and they claimed it was the stator.

I replaced the stator. No luck.

Then they say it was the CDI. Replaced it. No luck.

Then they said it was the ECM. Replaced it. No luck.

The bike was starting and remained going but still no display.

Now, a few weeks later, it will turn over but won't start.

What am I missing?

Lights and winch work. Battery receives charge ok. Display doesn't light up when key is turned on.

Thanks for your advice!

i hope the dealer(if you want to call him one) actually replaced these parts under warranty, as you cause named off some very expensive parts for guessing on what is wrong w/ it. did they do a test to see if or how much voltage is drawing onthe battery? did they test the volatage of the charging system before they replaced these parts? the battery indecator light means theres a big draw on the battery and i think the needle flashing is just warning to tell you something else is wrong(like the battery light). can you do a voltage check on what the battery has for voltage running and when it's off? off should be 12to 13 volts and running, reved up, should be 13.5 to 14.8 +- volts. this would tell you if the charging system was working correctly. just wondering if the bike has a big short drawing alot of power, say like a grounding out of a hot wire? imo

Chubbyguy!! Find you a real dealer or ask them how do they justify throwing parts at it and then get paid and you end up with a bill?

please for the sake of yourself go to a different dealer and ask questions on here prior to bringing it to get a ballpark as to what could be wrong. Any reputable dealer shouldnt just throw parts on something and not try to test it.. i only hope like stendori said that this was some kind of warranty coverage and you didnt pay for all that...

Overvoltage will also cause the battery light to flash. Try a new battery like others suggested.

Mine did the same thing when the battery was too weak to function properly ( 5 year old original battery).

Question

Just a quick question, did you install anything new lately like hands warmers, ect...

It almost sounds like you have a short somewhere.
