I bought a used 2000 Magnum 325 last summer and noticed the starter cranked kind of slow. Didn't think much if it because it always started.

Now that winter has set in it still cranks slow but needs plenty of cranking to get it started. I put a new battery in it last week hoping for a quick fix but it did not help.

My next thought is to check the brushes in the starter.

My question is, is there someting else I should be looking at and are there any surprises in getting the starter out of this model?

I just went through a similar issue,check all your connections at the solenoid and starter as well as the ground wires.If you have a volatage meter,pull the plug wire connect meter + - to the battery, should read 12.4 volts,now start the engine for 15 seconds while observing the meter,voltage should not drop below 9.5 volts,if so replace the battery "new batterys can be bad to" Thick old oil can also cause slower starts,valve adjustment out of spec and the automatic decompression lever is stuck.

 

Agreed, I have a 02 325 magnum that starts flawlessly even in sub-zero conditions. I would think yours should be no different. Once you figure it out the problem I think you'll be very happy with the machine. Mine has been very dependable for 7 years and counting. A little under powered for the size of the machine but still dependable in my experiance with it.

The oil is good in it, only a couple hours on the oil.

I will check all connections this weekend. Is the automatic decompression lever serviceable?
