Angry 08 550XP Rearend Popping

Anyone out there with an XP ever get a popping sound coming from the rearend in both forward and reverse on a hardpack trail? Doesn't really happen in the mud too much. Looking for suggestions or comments before I tear into it.

I think you mean 09 XP... How many miles are on your machine? I hade a clicking noise in my 05 and it turns out I had a small rip in my cv boot and it was fulled with mud and dirt. I must have been torn for a few months without me even knowing about it

You could be hearing the sound of the drive shaft issue. That was more of a clicking noise, rather than a popping.

It is actually my buddy's machine. He just got it and probably has 50 miles on it. He mentioned the issue to me last weekend after we rode, we just havent had much time to look at it. We will check the cv boot and see. It could very possibly be that. I can't really describe the sound, it is almost as if something is holding the axle back as it tries to rotate and it is struggling to rotate then it pops.

Try and pinpoint the location of the noise. If it is in the rear end, get that taken care of right away. My buddies was making noise, something bound up in the rear end, then ended up snapping an axle.

Yeah, if it's not something obvious, like the CV boot, then I'd get that rig to the dealer before any more damage is done. Must still be under warr....

seems to be a common issue on the XPs. Mine has had both rear axles replaced under warrantee. My wife's is doing it now as well, but the warrantee is is gone. Now we'll see how good the dealer is.
