06 500X2 polaris

Default 06 500X2 polaris

machine starts on recoil but will not turn over on key.Battery is good showing 12v.Makes only a clicking noise when key is turned.Where do i start?

battery should have more than 12volts. if it clicks you have a weak battery or you have a stuck starter.

welcome to the forum. first thing to make sure battery is 100% charged(around 12.5 vlots +) and as mentioned good clean connections. w/ the key on jumpthe s big cables that hook to the solenoid and see if the starter turns over the bike, if not then the starer is the issue. if it does the solenoid is bad or connections.

If its the starter,check connections after that most likely the starter needs to be taken apart and you will find the brushes are stuck and will need to be cleaned and lubed to move freely again, Happened to me.

Thanks for all the Advice. i am leaning towards the stuck starter..Will try on the weekend..Will keep you posted.

Do not take the starter off by the manuals instruction,off removing the clutches, much,much easier to get at it by removing the air box.

Removed starter,was a mess stuck brush and seized needle bearing.Got it cleaned up and lubed,put it back in bike still would not start.Crossed solinoid conections fired up right now.Thinking solinoid is shot.

Thanks TLC for airbox tip,worked great.Cleaned up starter and replaced solenoid all is good.Wife rode machine this weekend.Thanks again for the help.
