x2 cargo box?
#1
Hi all, im new here. I have a 07 800 X2 and havent taken a long distance trail ride with it yet. Just local and day trips since i have had it. I am wondering what everyone is using for a cargo box. I am looking at this...will it fit? Walmart.com: Rubbermaid 35" Durabull Industrial Toolbox: Storage & Organization Price is right!
Also, anyone have any experience with the Rotopax gas tanks? Worth the $$? I definately am going to have to carry gas...and with this guzzler i hope 4-5 gallons is enough!

Can't remember the brand name, but I bought 3 of those slim line (3.7 gallon) Gas tanks from Cabella's, and put them on the front of my '07 800 X2. As for the cargo box, never measured the X2 box, but 35" might be too large

Part of the limiting factor of the box on the rear of the X2 is the bulges in the corner for the taillights. If you stay inside of the bulges you can fit a 17" deep x 29" long box. If you go to the front of the bulges it looks like 15" deep x 35" long. I just took measurements out in the garage. It might be tight but it is worth a try. I bought the Contico box and it just fits. I just put a couple of long bungy cords over the top in an X pattern and put the hooks in the lock and ride holes. Haven't had a problem yet. I've had a bunch of tools on one trip, lunch and cooler on another, spare clothes on a winter trip, etc. It comes in handy. I can't see buying the ones from Polaris. Two half boxes at $135 apiece.

I wouldn't worry to much about the extra gas. I was there in 08 (one of us had a sp500), I had a 400 scrambler at the time. When we rode from Gilbert to Mann we would top off our tanks when we reached the other town. No one ever used more than 1.5 gallons and we rode all day. By the 2nd day no one carried their gas can. One suggestion is make sure you have a way to take your quad off the hill. We had a guy that broke his front spindle and didn't have a trailer to tow his quad and no matter what we tried we could move it no matter what we tried. Well we found someone but he got charged $200 to get his quad off the mountain. Next time we go we will have a small trailer that can be towed by a quad. You will have fun.

Rotopax make the best flat gas cans on the market. I ride with about 4 other guys who also have them and not one problem between us. With the X2 you have a 6.1 gal tank, and from what I'v eheard you should get around 16 mpg (I get 20-22 on my 500) so you should have a range of 90+ miles. Mount the gas tanks on the front rack - search for threads on here that show how several of us have mounted them.
As for the X2 my buddy has one and he uses a large cooler that fits in the bed perfectly between the two side bags Polaris makes for the rear bed. He holds the cooler in place with ratcheting tie downs. He's never had a problem and believe me we ride a lot of very rocky and rough terrain out here.
Now that I think of it you could use the cooler for storage also, he's never had any dust or water get into it.
Have fun.
