Default Q's about 850 XP in mud holes

i have a couple of Q's. I have a new 850 XP and was wondering how deep in the holes you can go. I know the manual says no more than the foot boards,,,lol,, come on now, that's no fun.
Just wondering about the intakes, i seen there is one going up the rear towards the muffler and one to the left side of the seat. On my 07 800 i could bury the rear up to the rack if front end was up,plus it would idle even if the muffler was buried in water, can you do that with the XP since there is an intake out the rear. Are there 3 intakes.. Have many of you takin yours in the mud and did you have any problems. Here are pics of my 07 in a hole and had no water in
Thanks

Slyder.....Do you own an XP? If so, look for yourself and take the seat off. I can't tell from you avatar what bike that is.

The intake for the CVT is under the main body of the seat (right under your butt), the more important air intake is above the main seat area, near the piece the extends above onto the gas tank (sloped area that protects the jewels). Can't image it's much different than any other Polaris. Maybe an inch or two here or there.

I have filled my CVT with muck and it's not good. I know a riding friend that went too deep on a band new XP850 and it cost him nearly 4 grand to have the thing repaired. I avoid deep unknown holes at all costs. It simply isn't worth it. It'll go deep, but no deeper than any other ATV as far as I can tell. There's no inches to measure, it's too imprecise when deep mudding.

From the looks of your pictures, you're going no deeper than that in stock form, without risking the entire investment.

Yes i do have an XP now and i dont plan on swamping it and i am careful in holes, i'm never the first to try a new hole cause of the expense. Guess what i was more wondering if it will go as deep as the 07 and 08 sportsman 800 quads. And mainly because i did notice that the cvt is right under the seat on the left side whereas on the 07 it is higher. But i noticed another air intake that goes up the rear of the machine towards the rear cargo box right above the muffler bur i couldnt see where or how high it goes

My understanding is that what you are referring to is the exhaust outlet for the CVT. Polaris Mechanic told me I was good up to mid seat with the new XP as long as it was running as muffler and exhaust outlet for CVT would be under water but since motor running would be enough exhaust to keep water out. I would rather be cautious so figure bottom of seat is safe which is 30" on mine with no rider.

I have a 550 xp and I have had it up to the racks in water, not mud for extended periods of time. I actually tested it to see what it would do. I stopped in the middle of a flooded field and turned the thing off, let it sit for a while, and then started it right back up. I was very impressed. I had always heard bad things about polaris and water, but I have been pleasantly surprised. No belt slippage, shorts, or any problems.

Correct, that is the exhaust for the CVT. If you're hitting the bottom edge of the seat, you're getting dangerously close to swamping the bike. If the front wheels drop in a hole, you're done. I came within inches on mine. Good thing the CVT swamped out and the bike stopped moving into the depths in my case. I was going slow and didn't have a lot of momentum.
