I picked up some American Star fully adjustable upper a-arms & a steering stabilizer that seemed to help out w/ the steering, had to take em off tho. There is a problem w/ the design tho so I have to send them back up to get fixed. Its solid tho I don't think these things will break anytime soon
A plus w/American Star is their service. Really cool & have taken care of any problems I've had

Yes make sure the toe is set properly. I like to run about a 1/2" of toe in - seems to really help with the darting steering...

I just picked up a ds 650 baja x and I think the front shocks are upside down they are Ryde Fx so I think they are aftermarket. are they better then the baja x oem shocks? anyway all the writing is upside down and the main part of the shock body is on the top.

The shock body should be on the top however I don't see how even if they were installed upside down would affect straight line handling. Your shocks in no way determine the geometry of the front end components. All they do is provide dampening...
The first year DS's were known for having high speed handling issues. It was all related to the funky geometry of the first year a-arms. A steering stabilizer may help mask the problem but the only way to really get rid of it is to ditch the a-arms. Go with either a good set of aftermarket a-arms or look for a used set on Ebay from an 02' or up.
