do you have alot of play or no play in your thumb throttle?because the electronic throttle control (etc) will shut off spark if it is,adjust to 1/8" play only couple inches up the cable from thumb throttle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Simple: Get a multimeter (cheap at Harbor Freight, under $5) and check for proper function with the battery disconnected.

disconnect battery, set a meter to ohms, resistance, its an omega sign, almost looks like a Q,put the red lead on the wire or where it plugs in,one of those will flash numbers when you turn the switch on,then for a brief moment then return to 0 when you turn the switch off,you can test any switch that way, normally open(no) normally closed(nc).

Hey I have the same problem, mine is a 2003 and it only turns on with the black CDI wire disconnected, what exactly did you do to fix it. I have to connect the wire back to turn it off.
