Default question about xp ball joints

on the recalled quads were the ball joints bad as in had play in the ball joint itself or did the steering knuckle give way where the ball joint connects ? the reason i ask while riding today checked my wheels and the ball joints on the front left had play in the ball joint itself and when i called the dealer he told me he thought it was the steering knuckle that was the problem the bike has only 275 miles and he wants to hit me for 325.00 for 2 ball joints because the 6 month warranty went out 5 days ago.CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The xp's recalled are having problems on the ball joint where the pinch bolts connect the tie rod to the wheel hub and $325 for 2 ball joints is OUTRAGEOUS.I sure hope that price included several hours of "shop" labor.

Default ball joints

the pinch bolt area seems to be ok so i must have just bad ball joints and yes the 325 included 3.5 hrs labor but i think i can handle changing the ball joints myself. I just wanted to make sure because i don't need any help in the crash department.

Definitely should not take a professional 3.5 hours to change a set of ball joints. I here what you sayin about the crash department. Probably something you can tackle yourself even if you dont have a great deal of mechanical skills and save yourself a lot of money.

There is apparently a general recall & N/C for all XP;s. Mine cost me nothing to repair.

Don't give up on getting it done under warranty. I had a similar problem with expired warranty and I was told US dealers (I'm in Canada) will usually give a 10 day "grace" period. If they say no call Polaris directly and speak to them, be sure to mention how much you paid for the bike, that the XP is their premium machine and that you know there is a problem with the ball joints. I had my repairs done under warranty after kicking up a fuss. Good luck!

I,m sure there are aftermarket ones from a auto supply store that would work. I doubt Polaris uses custom built tie rods or ball joints.

On the Sportsmans people just bought parts like that from NAPA.

Keep in mind that this is a recall and doesn't fall into regular warranty.
