Default 2004 Sportsman 500 no AWD

I pulled in to a mud hole with AWD switched on but it would not engage. There was no bagging, cluncking or any other noised to indicate any mechanical failures. Brought it back to the garage and put it up on a lift to see if we could get it to engage. The drive shaft is turning freely into the diff. We went into the diagnosic settings and confirmed the AWD was set to ON. We tested for power coming from the switch to the diff and had power. Can anyone tell me what my next step is and what I should be looking for?

Thanks

If you have power to the front diff and no awd , you might be able to change the fluid and get it to work, but you probably have a broken roller cage in the diff, you can get parts from john deer, much cheaper. THe part #s are
Roller Kit-MIA10666
Cage Kit- MIA10667
Seal Kit-MIA1065

welcome to the forum. if it has no hubs(old style) then chances are he is correct in saying maybe the roller cage is broke. if you look at a parts break down you'll see the part we're talking about. some times it's common for this to get broke if some time you were spinning and put it into awd before the wheels stopped spinning. just a thought.
