Ok guys, I am new to the quad scene. My stepsons dad just purchased him a 1998 Polaris Trailblazer 250. Got it home drove it around the yard a few hours until dad decides to get stupid and goes over a ditch at high speed,well the quad stands straight up dumps the man on his butt and catwalks across the driveway by itself!!!LOL. Kid gets back on it and runs around for 10 more minutes and it stalls. Wont start get another plug still nothing. Get it to my house and all you can smell is gas(a day later). Pull the air filter off and try to start it,gas is coming out the carb and the little drain tube? Took the carb off and cleaned the needle,didn't seem dirty but no gas coming out of it now. Still no start,took the plug out and grounded it against the head and it has a white spark? Should I try another plug and what is the gap? Supposedly has a new top end so compression should be good.

 

Welcome to the forum. Change the plug first, NGK BRE8ES, gap is .028.

 

sometimes if you flood a bike even w/ a new plug that has fire that has been gas fouled will not want to start. make sure there isn't gas alll through the engine and exhaust. not sure if theres a crank drain plug on that bike or not.

 

Id look to see if there is a crank drain. if its supper flooded (bottom end full of gas) it wont start untill its drained.

 

Ok I got a new spark plug (NGK BR8ES) and gapped it .028, took the crankcase plug out and drained it. There was some gas in there. Tried to start it until the battery was almost dead, it only barked once? What is the starting sequence for these things? Choke it until it starts and runs or just until it fires and then something else?

Another Question is what should the flanges for the floats be adjusted to? I left the gas lever on and it started coming out the overflow tubing and smelled up the garage and the house.Wife wasn't happy!!

 

sounds like your float is not set correctly(should be about level across) and which is still flooding the engine. did you check for goos spark as well? if it's flooded it doesn't need any more gas for sure. if you had some starting fluid and gave it shot inthe spark plug hole then plug back in it should at least fire the bike. make sure you drain the gas out of the base and check the exhaust for any gas that might be in there. only choke a bike when it's cold(if actually needed) and when it starts turn it off and then back on if it starts to stalls. once bike starrts to run rough from being too rich you could turn it off.
