'07 H1 overheating?
#1
Hey guys, I have a 2007 650 H1 that seems to have an overheating issue and just wondering if anybody else has this problem and or solutions.
It seems that on warm days, after riding for a bit then stopping for say 10-20 minutes, when trying to start, its almost like the quad is overfueling and hot. It will start, but then runs real boggy and will stall sometimes. After a little bit, it will clear up.
Took it to the dealer and said they couldnt find anything wrong, havent tried riding yet with the side panels off to see if this is an overheating problem or not, but I know it gets hot, when say riding up a steep hill, standing up with my backs of my legs against the front of the rear fenders, its darn hot.
Thanks..

There all get hot, some even melt the side panlels that why they put heat tape on the inside of them. The real sign of over heating is the hot light comes on on your dash or coolant boils out the over flow bottle.
Run some seafoam through the ATV,change the plugs,if it were a carb model I would say clean the carb, make sure the rad is clean. If it was over heating you would smell or see steam comming from somewhere.

Make sure the radiator is clean, start it up, and let it sit to see if fan comes on, if not check fuse, if everything is clean, and working, and you still feel it's running hot, one thing that you can do is drain/flush cooling system, and refill with Engine Ice, It is a bit expensive, and you CANNOT mix w/anti-freeze, but it will make your motor run 15-20 degrees cooler.

Thanks guys, this started shortly after i bought it, it hadnt even had its first service yet. I will try a few things, was looking at maybe cutting out slots in the side panels to let some of the heat escape, but am worried about how hot it will get on the legs
It doesnt steam though, the fan kicks on and if I am stopping and the fan is running, I will let it run untill the fan stops then shut it off. I think its just keeping to much heat in and around the engine.

They do get pretty warm, and AC's thoughts about the side panels was to channel air straight thru, and out the back for rider comfort. If you want to see how hot it really is take a ride at night , and pop the side panel off and look at the head pipe, it will be glowing cherry red. Your dealer should do a full inspection when you have your first(500 mile) service. Just keep an eye on the overflow bottle, and like I said you can drain/flush then run Engine Ice. You didn't describe your riding habits either, a lot of slow, or stop-n-go riding will cause excessive heat also. I would also recommend that you drain both fr., and rr. difntl. oils from Hypoid to Syn., because the Syn. doesn't foam up like the Hypoid does, and it reduces heat in both your dfntls., also at your 1st. service go ahead , and switch motor over to Syn., you can run it with fewer oil changes compared to using petroleum based oil. doing these few things can assure you of a longer life of your Quad.

Thanks LilSlim, I had the first service done, eng oil is now synthetic, but I will change the diffs over, good idea. I have thought about taking the panels off and going for a ride. The hard part with diagnosing it is that its not consistant, first time was a slow up and over and all around ride, the next time was definantly a faster ride. I will give the Engine Ice a go for sure.
Thanks

My brother has the same model but a 2006. Earlier this year his overheated and ran bad and then wouldn't start. Half an hour later when we were towing it out it started right back up as if nothing happened. This was the only time it happened that I know of.
