Foreman electric shifter problem
#1
Great machine, nearly perfect - one problem though - my Foreman electric shifter gets confused when I stall or accidently shut off the machine while in gear. The electric shifter clicks but will not change gears - it shows a horizontal line on the LCD display, indicating that it is between gears. At that point the machine will not start because it is not in neutral. Usually I can rock the machine to get it work again. Sometimes I have to use the emergency shifter tool which manually shifts it back to neutral. Last weekend the machine stalled while in gear. This time the symptom was different - the shifter did not click when trying to shift to neutral. The emergency shifter helped me get to neutral to start it, but unlike other times, the electric shifter still didn't work - no clicks at all. Now it was running but I had to use the emergency shifter to get to first gear. The emergency shifter only let me get to neutral, first, or 5th. I drove back to "the cabin" in first gear at 6mph. I shutdown to check fuses and connections - no problems found. When I started it, everyting was back to normal! I found one comment in the manual on page 74 where it says that the electric shifter will shutdown if it is working but shifted manually - restart the machine to clear the problem. That explains the problem but doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy - of course I should mention that I was in the middle of a logging trail in northern Wisconsin at about 25 degrees F, with freezing rain, and several inches of snow on the ground. My machine stalled in gear because I was taking turns dragging a Bombardier and a 400EX out of the ruts in the trail. It took 10 min. to get there and 2.5 hours to get back! Until that point, the Foreman didn't take no for an answer, an occasional maybe at it's worst! Does anyone experience the shifter problem and know of any better excuses than the ones the dealer can come up with?
