Sportsman HO dusts 300EX
#1
Almost a month ago several of us local boys got together to ride. There were 5 Honda's and 10 Polaris Atv's at the ride. We rode trails, took laps around the dirt track and hit the mud. Then one of the guys decided to start challenging everyone to drag race him. He had a stock Sportsman 500 HO. It beat a stock 300EX in three seperate runs of about two hundred yards. Pushed a stock 400EX every time. Only thing that really left him was a heavily modified 250R. The other bikes were Rancher ES ( mine ) and a friend on a Foreman 450. The rest were Sportsman 500's except for a Polaris 325 4x4. I was shocked and impressed. Now I'm looking to get my own 500 HO and drag some other bikes in more ways than one.
I own a Honda for now, but they are not the only ride in town. Imagine what the scrambler would do to the 300EX or 400EX for that matter. don't even want to think about a modified 400 Scrambler.

I can believe that... I own a 250X and my "father-in-law-to-be" has a regular Sportsman 500 and when we take off side-by-side thru a field or down a dirt rode, it's all I can do to get the holeshot and/or pull ahead of that thing...
My brother-in-law-to-be has a new Sportsman 500H.O. and I'm kinda scared about the first time he gets to ride with us...
those things have a top end of around 65+ mph!

Wow your big overweight 4x4 beat one of the slowest sport qauds on the market! What was the point of this topic? This furom is getting alot better about bashing and then someone comes along and tries to start again!I am glad nobody did though.
(Please excuse my sarcasam)
Put them both on a mx track or a tight Xc course and see again!I know the 300ex is not the best MX machine but it is in the top 5 woods bike's.

If you're gonna consider a Polaris then may I suggest you think 2-Stoke. In my opion, the 2-stroke is an easier engine to work on and you have that extra burst of energy when you need it. Mind you a 4-stroke is allright but totally different sourse of energy. Apperently this is the last year for the 2-stroke engine, 400 that is.

blackmagic, the Sportsman 500 is fast for such a heavy and large 4x4. Its impressive that Polaris can do that with a 500cc. engine. The only 4 stroke 4x4's that can come close to Polaris for speed are the Yamaha Wolverine (very light 350cc and not quite as fast) and the Grizzly (600cc and about the same speed). The Kawasaki 650 Prairie is supposed to be even faster. We'll see.
