After moving to an area with no easy access to riding spots I finally purchased a trailer and got the quads running after 3 years of storage. Prior to my hiatus I was in love with the GPX (Polaris clone).

My problem is that the quad has absolutely no take off power. Once it gets rolling it runs great but even the slightest of inclines or sandy condition renders the quad useless. Here is what I have done:

1. checked rollers....none stuck
2. installed red clutch springs
3. cleaned carb/air filter numerous times
4. tried different needle settings

I have disconnected oil injection and I am running 32:1. Any help would be great appreciated. This is getting frustration for my son and me as well.

The spark arrestor had been previously removed. I actually came across an old thread from 2002 or so about a Unison 90 having the same problem. The GPX and Unison are the same quad. They put in the red clutch springs, a yellow torque spring and a "thin" molossi belt. Does anyone know what the part number is on the thin belt. Thanks

 

I can't see it being in the clutchs but surely I can be wrong.
I'd do a compression test.

 

I wish I had saved the link. Whoever performed the work on the Unison was a dealer that Unison had the customer go to because it was under warranty. Considering I have the exact same quad and problem I figure I will start with what fixed the problem for him. Do they make different width CVT belts?

 

Well I finally fixed the problem and I'm posting the results for those that have similar issues. From what I have been researching several people had similar issues of their machines being sluggish off the line.

I started by only replacing the stock clutch springs with 2000rpm springs and lighter rollers (3g). The quad was still a dog off the line but the lighter rollers worked great.

I noticed the belt was no where near the bottom of the front pully and it was lower than I would have liked on the rear clutch pully.

I installed a red malossi torque spring and a Gates Power Link belt that was 1mm narrower than the stock belt.

I also installed a 14ga washer in between the variator pullies. Now the belt is all the way at the bottom of the variator.

I also alternated the 6g and 3g rollers and this thing is running great. My kid was all smiles when I had him try it out.
